Originally crafted of wooden staves, similar to how a barrel is made; the modern tankard is a fairly large, cylindrical-shaped drinking vessel, normally manufactured from lead-free pewter, crystal, sterling or stainless steel.
Brass embellishments and glass bottoms are also part of popular designs, as is a single handle, many designed with a thumb depression, ensuring a proper grip. An ancient part of our Scottish heritage, tankards today are most often given as commemorative gifts to mark special occasions.

I like this tankard very much, however I expected it to be bigger. I don't know what size my grandmother used to have, but they were bigger than 1 pint! Excellent for the money.

Was very pleased with this, they do vary in shape but I managed to get a good one which holds just over a pint! It's a great talking point in any beer festival. The resin used to attach the base is quite strong smelling, and the last bit of beer tastes of if too, but after a few uses it isn't as strong. A layer of wax might be useful? All in all - a success!

I bought this Christening cup for my Great Nephew. I had his name and the date he was baptized engraved on it as a reminder of a very special day in his life. It is also a very good gift all round. Somthing special to keep in the family.

Very pleased with this engraved tankard which arrived very speedily and was of a superior to many other tankards I have seen - it looks even better when you actually see this product. The photo does not do it justice. The engraving was beautiful as well. Excellent value for money.

Bought this as a 30th birthday gift for a friend. Although perhaps ideally suited for a christening I think it's a perfect special birthday present for a woman. Engraving wonderful - again!

The Tankard was wonderfully well made, and looks 200% better in real life than the photo! The engraving we had on it really looked smashing, and I was sorely tempted to buy one for myself (this was purchased as abirthday present). I would recommend this particular Tankard to anyone who wantsto buy something special for a gift, but does not have the money to buy the more expensive ones at the further end of the scale.
